The Rms Britannic was an Olympic-class ocean liner built by the White Star Line in 1914. She was the third and final vessel of the Olympic-class trio, preceded by her sister ships the Olympic and the Titanic. At 53,329 gross tons, she was the largest British passenger liner in service at the time and was intended to be used as a transatlantic luxury cruise liner for the White Star Line. On November 21st, 1916, the RMS Britannic struck a naval mine during World War I and sank off the coast of Greece. Despite this tragedy, the Britannic is remembered for its safety measures that were taken in response to the Titanic disaster two years prior. Her double hull was designed to increase the ship’s buoyancy and for the first time, portholes were made with hardened glass to prevent flooding.
