The Division Air Cav Ride The Thunder is an annual celebration for the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. During the event, soldiers participate in an air and ground parade to commemorate the unit’s long history in the Army. The division traces its roots back to the 1st Cavalry Regiment formed during the Civil War. Along the parade route, the troops ride their horses and display various flags from the regiments’ illustrious past, including the cavalry guidon. Aircraft fly overhead in formation, signifying the unit’s commitment to air support. At the conclusion of the parade, the soldiers gather at the post’s main flagpole for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor fallen comrades from the Cavalry Division. It is a solemn day of remembrance and pride for all involved and reflects the unit’s proud heritage.
