The USS Ranger (CVA-61) was the flagship of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. In November 1967, the Ranger set sail from Hawaii to the South China Sea and beyond for a seven-month deployment. Onboard, members of the crew were adorned in their iconic Hawaiian shirts, the bright colors standing out in stark contrast against the deep blue of the vast ocean. Along the journey, the Ranger conducted multiple operations, participated in 850 searches, and rescued 774 personnel. Despite the grueling nature of the mission, the crew took part in activities such as sport competitions and beach parties near the Gulf of Thailand, providing much needed lightheartedness amidst the difficult work.
