The squadron, also nicknamed ‘The Blacklions’, is currently flying the F-14D Tomcat. Since being formed in 1966, VF-213 has earned many decorations and awards. These include the Presidential Unit Citation with one star, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, and numerous other campaign ribbons. As a part of the Atlantic Fleet, they perform various assignments from testing new weapons systems to providing support for marines city landings. In 1997, VF-213 adopted the unique Hawaiian shirt as their unit colors.
