The Consolidated B24d1co Liberator was an American heavy bomber utilized during World War II. It had a maximum flight range of 1,500 miles and could reach a speed of up to 272 mph. The aircraft had huge fuel capacity which enabled it to travel great distances, and its radial engines allowed it to climb in altitude quickly. This made it the perfect aircraft for long-range bombing raids in Europe and the Pacific. It was heavily used by the United States Army Air Forces and the Royal Air Force. Over 18,000 of these planes were ultimately produced, making it one of the most widely produced aircraft of the war. The Consolidated B-24D-1-CO Liberator “Hot Stuff” with Serial Number 41-23728 was flown by the 330th Bomber Squadron, 93rd Group, 8th Air Force. With a range of more than 3,000 miles, it could carry an impressive load of up to 8,800 lbs of bombs or other cargo and reached top speeds of 287 mph. The Liberator was also the first US bomber to fly in raids over Europe. Hot Stuff was commissioned for service in January 1943 and flew 89 missions between the UK and Germany until May 1945, with 13 of those missions being flown over Japan.
