The U.S. Navy VA-87 Golden Warriors “IK-87 Hawaiian Shirt” A-7E Corsair II served from 1975 to 1991, and was based off the popular A-7 Corsair II used by the U.S. Air Force. The Golden Warriors were part of the Atlantic Fleet, and received their nickname “Hawaiian Shirt” due to their iconic camouflage paint job. The aircraft was equipped with a variety of weapons including Vulcan cannons, Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles, and could carry up to 15,000 lbs. of ordinance. The combination of maneuverability and firepower made it an ideal close-air support aircraft.
