Sid Vicious was an English punk rock musician and bassist for the Sex Pistols. He was born John Simon Ritchie in London in 1957 and rose to fame in the late 1970s as part of the UK punk movement. He had a turbulent life, filled with controversy, drugs, and violence. After the break-up of The Sex Pistols, he released his only solo album, Sid Sings, and embarked upon a short solo career. Sadly, on 2 February 1979, he was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, and later died of a drug overdose at the age of 21. Despite his short-lived career and extreme lifestyle, Sid Vicious remains a punk icon and a symbol of rebellion.
