The 112th Fighter Squadron was first constituted on 28 July 1921, as the 112th Observation Squadron. Throughout its history, the unit has served with distinction in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It is known for its heroism during WWII, when it flew over 400 combat missions in Europe, and earned two Distinguished Unit Citations, a Presidential Unit Citation, and two French Croix de Guerre awards. The 112th also played an important role in Cold War air defense operations in the United States. Today, the unit is part of the Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing and continues to operate in support of the United States’ national security objectives.
