The McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle 86-0169, better known as “Hawaiian Shirt”, was a real eye-catching aircraft. From 1999 to 2000, it was flown by the 493rd Fighter Squadron (FS), a unit of the 48th Fighter Wing (FW) in the United States Air Force at RAF Lakenheath in England. The aircraft’s signature feature was an extremely colorful Hawaiian shirt paint job that was inspired by the squadron’s nickname, “The Grim Reapers.” The paint scheme included multi-color flowers, green palm trees, yellow and blue waves, a smiling sun, and even an aircraft silhouette flying above the island. This unique livery made the Hawaiian Shirt one of the most recognizable aircraft in the world.
