Flipper Come And Take It is a phrase of defiance shouted by Texans during the Battle of Gonzales. This battle is considered the very beginning of the Texas revolution. It involved a group of Texans defending the town of Gonzales against the Mexican army, which demanded the return of a small cannon. The Texans refused, so on October 2nd 1835, Colonel Domingo de Ugartechea, Commander of the Mexican army, gave them one last chance to surrender the cannon. The Texans courageously shouted “Flipper Come And Take It,” and from this moment began the fight for Texas’ independence.
