He was born in Melbourne, Florida in 1966 and made his Major League debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992. Throughout his 20-year professional career, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. He is best known for his time with the Red Sox, where he was named to the All-Star team in 2009. During his career, he became the all-time leader in wins for the Boston Red Sox, accumulating a record of 186-168. After retiring in 2012, Tim Wakefield returned to the Red Sox organization as a special assistant to the GM, serving in that role until his retirement in 2023.
