HMS Liverpool, a Type 42 destroyer in the Royal Navy, was built by Cammell Laird and launched in 1980. It played an important role during the Falklands War and Iraq War. She is the third vessel to bear the name Liverpool, and was decommissioned from British service in 2011. The ship was 390 feet long and displaced 4,820 tonnes. She was armed with Sea Dart missiles, Exocet anti-ship missiles, a twin 4.5 inch gun, six medium calibre machine guns, torpedo tubes, and Stingray anti-submarine torpedoes. In 1982, HMS Liverpool helped clear Argentine forces from the Falkland Islands. During the Iraq War in 2003, she was involved in mine clearance operations and provided naval gunfire support to ground troops.
