The US Air Force Republic P-47G-10-CU Thunderbolt, S/n 42-25068 ‘Snafu’ Hawaiian Shirt was one of the most successful fighters of World War II. The Thunderbolt was the most numerous aircraft type in the USAAF inventory, with more than 15,000 having been manufactured by the end of the war. The ‘Snafu’ was named in honor of its combat performance in the Pacific Theater; “Snafu” standing for Situation Normal All Fouled Up. It gained fame for its ability to absorb large amounts of battle damage and still remain in service. The P-47G-10-CU was armed with eight .50-calibre machine guns and had an impressive top speed of 414 mph.
