The Hawker Siddeley “Harrier” GR.1, Aircraft XV 764, of the “Red Arrows” Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team is a highly visible and iconic example of British military aviation technology. During its service with the Red Arrows from 1972-1981, it proudly wore its distinctive red, white, and blue Hawaiian livery. The aircraft was powered by a single Rolls-Royce Pegasus vectored thrust turbofan engine which allowed for the famous “vertical take-off and landing” (VTOL) maneuvers, as well as high-speed passes and inverted maneuvers during airshow exhibitions. Its unique design made the Harrier Gr.1 one of the most recognizable aircraft in RAF history.
