I Was Not Aware That The Trashmen were an American rock group from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who achieved national prominence from 1963-65 with their hit single “Surfin’ Bird”, which was a medley of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons. Formed in 1962, the band consisted of guitarist Tony Andreason, bassist Bob Reed, drummer Dal Winslow, and saxophonist Steve Wahrer. They released three albums, including a live album recorded at the then-famous Minneapolis nightclub, The Surf Ballroom. The Trashmen stood out from many of their contemporaries in the early 1960s by combining their instrumental prowess, vocal harmonies, and their surf/rock sound.
